Welcome to

Year 1 & 2

(please click on the pictures to view)

In Year 2 we are writing non-fiction texts and were very lucky to meet four different birds of prey. We were very brave and held them!

As part of our English lessons, in Year 1/2M & 1/2T,  we read the book 'Don't Call Me Sweet' by Smiriti Prasadam-Halls.  The photos below show us practising the text map and trying to be an angry monster. Drama has helped us understand the characters' feelings.

Year 1/2M & 1/2T have taken part in build the tallest tower challenge!  We completed a challenge using 3-D shapes to show our understanding of length and height.  Some of us persevered and attempted the tower a few times before they were satisfied.  We thought about which shapes would add more height.

Year 1/2T took part in a RSPB workshop. We were very excited and we enjoyed exploring the school grounds.

As part of circle time, in year 1/2M, we role-played different scenarios about problem solving during break time.  We thought about ways of looking after people to ensure that break times are happy times. Image 6564 - 'There is one bike but two children want to play on it.'

In art, Year 1/2T have been finding out about Aboriginal art. We have planned, designed and improved our piece of art work.

We have been very busy over the last few months......

We wrote letters to Santa and posted them.

We estimated how long it would take us to do activities and then measured the time using the Ipads stopwatches.

Our class have been doing lots of role play to help us learn new stories. We are very good at acting!

One day we had a gymnastics taster session. We were very excited and enjoyed practising new skills.

Year 2 Children had great fun in the snow.

The children were very lucky to have a visit from the Fire Service.  They were able to try on equipment and learn all about the services the Fire Fighters provide.

We have been very busy in our lessons and taking part in acitivities this term.......

We have performed our own assembly, taken part in yoga and made 3d shapes.   We often act out the stories we have read and use laptops to help us with our research.  We love dressing up on non-uniform days.  We also made a weather station and so much more......
We had a visit from the fire services to talk about general safety and what can cause fires in the home.  They talked about making a plan on how to get out of the house incase of a fire and how fire alarms work and how to check them. The children really enjoyed the visit and asked lots of questions. and the firefighters were really impressed with the facts children were telling them.
If parents would like to have a free home safety check or need any smoke alarms they can contactwww,twfire.gov.uk and follow the links or tel 0800 032 7777.
We are reading The Lighthouse Keepers Lunch and have been writing instructions of how to make a disgusting sandwich. Some children were very brave and tried mustard which is used as part of the story!
Our use of expression is fantastic. We love doing Reading Theatre in Year 2

We have enjoyed discovering fractions by cutting apples into halves and quarters.  We set up our own weather station to measure rainfall, temperature, wind speed and direction and we also joined with Mrs Ruffle's class to make an island like the one Kate Morag lives on.

Children enjoyed a very special music lesson.

Children have been reading Dogger by Shirley Hughes. They have used drama and actions to retell the story. Children created their own story in the style of Dogger.Yr 2.jpg

Children have been working hard in their maths lessons, learning about number lines and 2d and 3d shapes.
