Laygate Community School Values and Ethos

Our School Motto

“Where Learning Creates Success”

Our Vision Statement

Our children, staff and governors work together to ensure we have a school that is:

  • committed to the development of life-skills to equip all our children for tomorrow's world
  • committed to work in partnership with our parents, carers and the wider community
  • providing a curriculum that is broad and balanced whilst also creating first-hand and varied experiences
  • aware of the importance of SATs but knows the development of the whole child is paramount
  • continually evolving whilst always being open, honest and supportive of each other

Our School Aims

We value every one of our pupils and want them to make the very best use of their skills, talents and abilities. To do this we believe all our children should be happy, and have high aspirations. We encourage all our children to respect and value each other and strive to be successful together. We teach our children about the positive aspects of living and working in a rich and diverse community. Discrimination on the basis of colour, culture, origin, gender or disability is not acceptable here, at Laygate Community School. Every member of our school community, children and adults, will endeavour to support this in contributing towards making this school a happy and caring environment which shows respect and appreciation of everyone as individuals who each have a great deal to offer within the complexity of modern British society. We aim to encompass the common elements and values of the the British society at the local, wider and global community level. In this respect, we regard ourselves as a fully inclusive school.

We aim to ensure our children;

  • fulfil their own potential and aspire to achieve great things
  • achieve high standards in all areas of the curriculum
  • show curiosity about the world around them and develop enquiring minds
  • are motivated, enthusiastic learners who apply knowledege and understanding to solve problems
  • demonstrate independence and self discipline
  • can work collaboratively and as part of a team
  • have high self esteem, respecting themselves and others
  • become responsible citizens  passing on the values of modern British society
