PE and Sports Grant


The £8851 PE and Sport grant that Laygate Community School received in the financial year 2016 / 2017 has been allocated in various ways to ensure a lasting legacy of the money.


The impact of the PE and Sports grant funding is as follows:

  • teachers are now more skilled in teaching quality PE
  • more children have taken part in competitions across the borough of South Shields
  • We continued to run our football team.
  • Sports clubs being run after school

The table below shows how the PE and Sports Funding money has been allocated over the last two academic years.

Payment to Real PE which is a scheme of work to enable non specialist teachers/staff to deliver effective and differentiated PE lessons, including staff training and specialist PE lessons.

Re-introduce sports afterschool clubs are now available to engage a wider variety of children.

Foundation of Light Coaches to provide ball skills coaching for EYFS.

Sports Day - 2 coaches to be brought in to support in the facilitation of an improved sports day where team games and competitive races are organised.

Planned purchase of whole school PE equipment to support teaching and learning.

Introduction of Yoga for EYFS and Year 1 - to help with co-ordination and balance.







Payment to join South Tyneside SLA for Outdoor Education (this provides professional development for teachers and allows the children to take part in specialist sports that they would not normally access. 

Spending on curriculum coaches (basic skills for EYFS, Multi-Skills for KS2, football breakfast clubs with Start To Finish Sports).

Increased spending on coaches to improve the number of and variety of afterschool clubs.

Continuation of the school football team (employment of a weekly coach).

Year 5  received cheerleading coaching and attended  interschools cheerleading tournament.

Newcastle Eagles have provided coaching for the children in Year 5. Attendance at a Level 2 tournament.

Foundation of Light - provided specialist coaches to deliver 'Little Dribblers' sessions to Early Years.

Inter-school competitions organised and funded both here at Laygate and local schools - funding allocated for coaching staff
