PE and Sports Grant

  

The £8640 PE and Sport grant that Laygate Community School received in the financial year 2015 / 2016 has been allocated in various ways to ensure a lasting legacy of the money.

 

The impact of the PE and Sports grant funding is as follows:

  • teachers are now more skilled in teaching quality PE
  • more children have taken part in competitions across the borough of South Shields
  • 2 football teams run in school after the success of the team last year - Winners in the borough!
  • more sports clubs are being run after school

The table below shows how the PE and Sports Funding money has been allocated over the last two academic years.

Increased spending on curriculum coaches (basic skills for EYFS, Basketball for Year s5 and 6, Bench ball for Years 3 and 4, Gymnastics for Years 1 and 2, all with Start To Finish Sports Coaching).

A good variety of sports afterschool clubs are now available to engage a wider variety of children.

Creation of a second school football team (employment of a weekly coaches).

Newcastle eagle have provided coaching for the children in Year 5. They have been coached by a qualified Eagles player and have attended a level 2 basketball competition.

Year 5 to receive cheerleading coaching and to attend a cheerleading tournament.

Foundation of Light Coaches to provide ball skills coaching for EYFS.

Sports Day - 2 coaches to be brought in to support in the facilitation of an improved sports day where team games and competitive races are organised.

Inter-school competitions organised and funded both here at Laygate and local schools - funding allocated for coaching staff.

 

Payment to join South Tyneside SLA for PE (this provides professional development for teachers, enrolment in South Tyneside Schools events throughout the year, Specialist teachers to come into school to work with children and training staff.

Spending on curriculum coaches (trampoline for all year groups, basic skills for EYFS, Multi-Skills for KS2, football breakfast clubs with Start To Finish Sports).

Increased spending on coaches to improve the number of and variety of afterschool clubs.

Creation of a school football team (employment of a weekly coach, purchase of a new football strip).

Purchase of whole school PE equipment to support teaching and learning of the 2014 National Curriculum.

Newcastle Eagles have provided coaching for the children in Year 5. Attendance at a Level 2 tournament.
